Quick note: I’m CES-bound, and while my office will be at the chandelier bar, I’ll tease you that I have a few things in the works. If you’re a publisher focused on advanced TV/CTV and going to be in Vegas – shoot me a note.

Here I am talking about Vegas when Scott Cunningham has been building a school. Check out his update!

Lila Hunt and I were slacking about our favorite topics: curation and multi-publisher deals. Without giving you the context, she described the situation with this:

I tend to think of it as this (NSFW language ahead!):

Both give me the same feels. We know what’s right, but we’re all trapped trying to get ours. Life lessons ahead for everyone if we don’t clean things up!

The open marketplace dynamics have irrevocably changed, and if your programmatic strategy hasn’t adapted, you aren’t making as much money as you could, or worse – you’re just being left out. My conversation with Chris and Nils was a deep, deep dive into traffic shaping and I learned a lot in the process. Watch it here!

Event Focus

Not much to announce at this point, but a lot of work has already gone into the agenda. Some concepts I’ll share even at the risk of being copied:
  • I’d like to see more commitment to automation and outsourcing. Maybe we make it a 2025 pledge and track progress over the year?
  • First party data feels too amorphous a topic these days. I think we have to go to overall data strategy or go deeper or both. I could use some help finding the right mix.
  • Publishers as a whole are not the best negotiators. Maybe we work on that?
  • We always want to talk to the buy side, but maybe we should create a new conversation with the sell side?
  • One session title I’m still wordsmithing: “Do we have to talk about curation? Yes, unfortunately it’s March and we still need to talk about curation.”
I know, not much to go on at this point, but that’s going to change. Stay tuned and for gosh sake, raise your hand if you want to be a part of it.
