If this industry were to have a New Year’s resolution, what would it be?
– It could certainly lose some weight. The ANA report rates us as “morbidly obese” at 64% body fat.
– It could certainly drink less (and yet CES is less than a week away).
– It could certainly eat healthier. Perhaps we ingest fewer bad players and serve more valuable impressions?

But the chances are slim that the industry will resolve to do anything collectively this year. The industry simply doesn’t operate as one group. All the individual parts of the industry operate with their own best interests at heart, which doesn’t align with what everyone else needs.

No, unfortunately, as much as many of us will try to rally everyone together to make for a better industry, I think the best outcome for 2024 is we, hopefully, realize before things become too bad that we can’t recover, just how much we need each other. People want content. Advertising works. That should make for a healthy ecosystem! So, how do we break such bad habits?

Now that we have your attention…We are switching our newsletter ESP. We don’t want to end up in spam or have you miss out on what is going on.
